Acharya Nagarjuna University-National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) is active, dynamic and vibrant in carrying out the programmes designed by ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India, NSS Regional Centre, Hyderabad, State NSS Cell, Higher Education Dept, Govt .of Andhra Pradesh, since it’s inception of ANU.

The following are the salient features of the NSS Cell, ANU

  • 300 NSS Units;300 Programme Officers with 30,000 Volunteers (SC-4884; ST- 2394; Gen-22722) spread over Guntur and Prakasham Districts of Andhra Pradesh.
  • 3rd largest NSS Cell in the state of Andhra Pradesh
  • Only NSS Cell in south India having made online activities in the form having exclusive web site www.nssanu.org
  • Received prestigious awards viz. state Best NSS Coordinator, best NSS volunteers
  • 2nd in the world and India, NSS Cell of ANU has attempted Guinness world record in the event of 1 km largest bare foot walk organized on 12.12.12 with 7,050 volunteers.
  • Composition of NSS Units:NSS Units are located in different Jr. Colleges Degree Colleges, Professional colleges such as Engineering, Pharmacy & PG Colleges
  • Only NSS Cell of ANU in the state having NSS sub units Disaster management cell – ERU’s (Emergency Response Units) operating with the cooperation of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of 10th battalion.
  • Other unique features Prakrithi Mithra clubs, Legal aid Club, Blood donors club (Red Ribbon club), Plantation, Special Camps at adopted villages,
  • only university in the state, and south India, having exclusive NSS building (NSSBhavan) with fully furnitured such as skilled staff, computers, fax, Xerox machine etc.,
  • NSS Cell of ANU has organized several state level progrmmes viz, state youth festival2012 ,state NSS awards 2012
  • NSS Cell of ANU used to organize Orientation & Refresher programmes at regular intervals for Programme Officers of NSS Units to cater the needs of training the untrained Programme Officers of different NSS units of the state with the support of state Training NSS Centre of Andhra University.
  • NSS Cell of ANU is most popular in organizing Mega blood donation camps with collection of more than 1000 blood units at regular intervals. Maintenance of red ribbon clubs for supplying blood for the needy people during emergency and operated at round the clock.
  • Playing vital role in conducting service activities and has a strong coordination with NGO’S as it is evidenced with the members of NGO’s are inducted in to the University level advisory committee.
  • Several other innovative and novel programmes are going to be taking off in the due of course of time.
